Safety & Disclaimer
Appliances use electricity, gas, water and refrigerant. When in doubt, call a professional.
Last updated: October 14, 2026We want every customer to stay safe. Please read this page before trying to troubleshoot or repair an appliance on your own.
1Information Only, Not Professional Advice
The articles, tips and videos on our website and social media are general information to help you understand how appliances work and when to call for service. Every appliance, model and home is different, so this information may not apply to your situation and is not a substitute for an in-person inspection by a qualified technician.
2Your Safety Comes First
If you choose to check anything on your appliance yourself, please follow these basic rules:
- Unplug the appliance or switch off its circuit breaker before touching any internal part.
- Shut off the water supply before working near hoses or valves.
- Never bypass safety switches, door locks, thermal fuses or other protective devices.
- Follow the manufacturer’s owner manual and warning labels. They come before any general advice on our website.
3Gas Appliances
Gas ranges, cooktops, ovens and dryers should only be serviced by trained professionals.
- If you smell gas, do not use any switches, phones or flames inside the home. Leave right away and call your gas company or 911 from outside.
- Do not disconnect, move or adjust gas lines and connections yourself.
- Use only original manufacturer (OEM) gas valves, regulators, coils and gas lines. Aftermarket gas parts may not meet the manufacturer’s safety specifications and can cause leaks or fire.
4Electrical, Water & Sealed Systems
- Stop using an appliance and call a professional if you notice sparks, a burning smell, smoke, tripped breakers that keep tripping, or water near electrical parts.
- Refrigerator and freezer sealed systems contain refrigerant under pressure. Repairs to sealed systems require certified technicians and special equipment.
- Use only OEM parts for water components such as inlet valves, drain pumps, circulation pumps, water level sensors and hoses. A failed aftermarket water part can cause flooding and costly water damage.
5Do-It-Yourself Repairs Are at Your Own Risk
Any repair, cleaning or adjustment you perform yourself is done at your own risk. PowerOn Appliance Repair Service is not responsible for injury, property damage or appliance damage that results from do-it-yourself work, including work based on information from our website. Repairs performed by others may also affect your warranty coverage.
